1. Most importantly, when reporting your accident to your insurance carrier, according to Texas law, you have a right to choose your own collision specialist. Do not allow yourself to fall victim to their terms such as "Blue Ribbon", "Preferred", "Select" or "DRP". These shops are in contract with various insurance companies and provide financial "gifts" or "kickbacks" for their referrals. At Jon's Paint & Body Shop, LLC we are committed unconditionally to your complete satisfaction. We are 100% pro-consumer and will never "sell-out" to such contracts and unlawful sales tactics. We are so confident in your satisfaction we are happy to provide you a complete guarantee on any work we perform. |
|
2. You may be told you must have more than one estimate. This is against the law and you have the right to choice. |
|
3. Do not forget you are entitled to the "diminished value" or the financial loss you have suffered due to the accident and subsequent repair. You should receive this compensation for a period of up to 2 years from the date of repair. Your insurance provider and the person who is responsible for the accident is responsible for the compensation you are entitled.
|
|
4. It is your right to be informed about your towing charges, car rental fees, and the extent of coverage for these services while your vehicle is being repaired.
|
|
5. We also take great pride in our "pro-consumer approach and will always deliver a candid, honest opinion in regards to the future prognosis of your vehicle. If the car can be fully repaired without compromise to the integrity we will do exactly that! If the car should be left to "total" we will tell you honestly with hesitation. |
|
6. Here are ten questions every consumer should ask before purchasing a new insurance policy or renewing an old one. |
- If I am involved in an accident, will I have the opportunity to choose a repair shop myself and will the bill be covered less my deductible?
-
Will the policy you are suggesting pay to repair my vehicle using OEM or "Original Manufacturers Equipment".
-
Will I receive the diminished value compensation of the vehicle once the car is repaired?
-
Based on the year of the car and mileage, will the insurance provider depreciate repairs? If so, how much and exactly which parts are subject to depreciation?
-
Will I receive a reduced rate as my car ages if depreciation is a factor?
-
If I am involved in an accident will my rates go up and if so, how much?
-
You should always be aware of increasing rates as you age. You need to ask so that you do not end up with costly claims that could have been avoided. Also, you don't want to be concerned with the possibility of being dropped should you have a claim to be filed.
-
If I am involved in an accident in which the vehicle is "totaled", will the insurance company pay me and how is that determined?
-
Does my policy cover a rental vehicle while mine is being repaired after an accident? (This level of coverage is generally inexpensive. However, be sure and ask to have this benefit if desired.) Do I have enough coverage to allow me to have a vehicle comparable to my own and also the coverage should cover every day your car is in the shop!
-
If I have a higher deductible, how much am I really saving on my premiums?
-
During the term of my policy, is the price I have been quoted at a fixed rate or are there any unexpected or hidden expenses I should be aware of?
|
|
7. An extremely important point to always keep in mind is that if your vehicle is damaged by someone else's actions that the other person's insurance company typically cannot be held accountable for the integrity, quality, or safety of all repairs performed on your car. The standard of damages is the "reasonable" cost for repairs Be sure that have selected a collision specialist that is in full compliance with his obligations to you, his customer! A good rule of thumb to follow goes back to a very old saying "you get what you pay for"! Don’t forget, you have a choice! It is your right!
|
|
8. Though the law states that you have the right to choose your specialist, many insurance companies will attempt to manipulate you into their "preferred" shops by suggesting they will only pay for estimates given by their providers. Again, this is against the law and violates your freedom of choice! |
|
9. Every consumer should be completely knowledgeable of his or her rights and responsibilities especially when you are communicating with your insurance provider.
|
|
Here are some of your rights you should be aware of: |
- You have the right to choose your body shop and not be bullied by some insurance company just to increase their profit margin.
-
Upon consultation with your collision specialist, you should always receive an itemized invoice of work to be performed, including parts, labor and a total price that will also provide you with an option of new, used or reconditioned parts.
-
You should also be cautious of any possible fraudulent behavior or other complaints or concerns, which may have been filed in the past.
